My five year plan is to be an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). But I am feeling very Veruca Salt and want it now! I looked up how to go about getting it and what my options are in Chicago. First, take 8 prerequisite courses at a City College. Next, take a 5 day training course (dates are March and October with one company I found) and then 3 distance courses. Then, somehow find a way to get 1,000 supervised hours of practce (typically unpaid) before taking the big IBCLE exam. My plan has been to start the prerequisites online as soon as I have a stable job and Internet at home.
Well, I remembered Jack Newman has a clinic in Toronto and has a training course. This would be amazing!!!! The new goal is to get a study permit and move to Toronto for September. I am waiting for an email back from the school on if this is possible and have been researching and making lists of everything I would need in order to make this happen (like a loan for the courses and clinic hours and living expenses for a year).
