On Saturday Wallace and I went to the library to drop off books, pick out new ones, and pick up the A Wrinkle in Time graphic novel that I requested (that’s where his name is from). I saw a flier for story time, added it to my phone calendar, and decided to go.
We went this morning and Wallace had a ton of fun. The woman who did it must be a retired preschool teacher because she rocked it and really understood all the personalities and quirks at this age. There were songs, movements, two books, felt boards, more songs, and a couple little parachute games. Wallace sat on the chair next to me with no room between us. He is always very tentative in new places and with new people. But, he amazed me! I explained things to him with little asides and told him in what ways he could choose to participate. I respected his needs and his personality and then he did this… twice!
He came back to me when he needed to but when the parachute came out, which he has never done before, he was his normal goofy self. I will make point to go weekly and I bet he will be singing along before Christmas, but if he’s not, that’s okay too.
Yay for new adventures!
